For this sample pack we dig into the Allan Hancock Foundation Collection housed at the University of Southern California. George Allan Hancock was an oil baron in California which gave him plenty of wealth to donate to the University of Southern California where the Allan Hancock Foundation was formed in 1931. Keen on the cello, one of the roles of the Hancock Foundation was to produce records for broadcast in the 1930s-1940s.
The sample pack is full of records ranging from classical to jazz to choirs and more. They’ve been masterfully digitized by the USC library and made available for free re-use under a Creative Commons attribution license. There’s also a few surprises in the pack as well for you to discover. For even more check out the USC Library page here.
