On November 10, _underscore_ returns for its 3rd installment with three live debuts of new film scores for archival films from Animistic Beliefs, Martijn Comes and Wanderwelle. _underscore is a collaboration between RE:VIVE, Eye Filmmuseum, and The Rest is Noise where contemporary electronic musicians are invited to compose and revive archival films from Eye and The Netherlands Institute for Sound and Visions’ collections.

De kleine beer Cor Icke 1950 16’ + Animistic Beliefs
De Rotterdamse undergroundtechnoband Animistic Beliefs (Linh Luu en Marvin Lalihatu) maakt een nieuwe score voor de korte film van de familie Icke. De zoontjes Frans en Vincent (tegenwoordig hoogleraar theoretische sterrenkunde en kosmologie) beleven een ruimteavontuur, geïnspireerd door het Kuifje-album Mannen op de maan.
Eng: The Rotterdam underground techno duo, Animistic Beliefs, have created a new score for the short film “De kleine beer” from the Icke family. The sons of director Cor Icke, Frans and Vincent, embark on a strange journey to space inspired by the Tintin comic, Men on the Moon.
Ballade van den hoogen hoed Max De Haas 1937 28’ + Martijn Comes
Componist Martijn Comes is gespecialiseerd in nieuwe media, geluidsontwerp en elektroakoestische compositie. Hij begeleidt live de kunstzinnige opnamen van de belevenissen van een chique hoge hoed die in de rivier de Amstel dobbert. De hoed – bekend als hoofddeksel van diplomaten, bruidegoms en uitvaartmedewerkers – belandt in handen van een straatmuzikant, doet dienst als voetbal en keert terug in de gracht…
Eng: Composer Martijn Comes is specialized in new media, sound design and electro-acoustic composition. He will preform along side a film that follows the journey of a chic top-hat that makes its way down the Amstel River. The hat, a symbol usually of the elite and highly educated finds its way into the hands of the lower class and blue collar works of 1930s Amsterdam and has a surrealist adventure.
De Andere met het collier Emile Brumsteede 1961 19’ + Wanderwelle
Wanderwelle (Phil van Dulm, Alexander Bartels), dat atmosferische elektronische muziek maakt op de grens van ambient en experimentele techno, begeleidt De Andere met het collier. Een rijke jonge vrouw herstelt na een auto-ongeluk in het Kurhaus, Scheveningen. Daar ziet zij haar evenbeeld, gezond en gelukkig. De Andere-met-het-collier is zijzelf. Genezen verlaat de vrouw het hotel.
Eng: Wanderwelle, a dynamic duo, literally, who can jump from a hard techno live set in the middle of the woods to a washed out ambient live show in a cozy basement will preform along side the 1961 film, De Andere met het collier. A rich young woman’s journey towards recovery in the Kurhaus in Scheveningen after a car accident. During her time there she begins to see a different image of herself…
