Virtual Workshop #2 with Arad (Lakker)

Probably our favorite thing to do with RE:VIVE is to give workshops. Last week we held our first Virtual Workshop as a test in collaboration with SAE Institute Amsterdam. It went well so we’re back for more.

With these workshops we are bringing a bunch of different music producers and artists together and putting everyone a bit out of their comfort zone by throwing them a curve ball sample pack of archival sounds. We like teaching people new things and we love hearing what you make, even if you think it’s not good (it is good!).

For this second workshop we’ll be working exclusively with field recordings from Schiphol Airport in The Netherlands, which has been silenced indefinitely, a rare occurrence for one of Europe’s busiest airports. We will also have a guest lecturer, Dara Smith aka Arad aka ½ of acclaimed left-field techno duo, Lakker. The workshop will focus on the basics of sound design, turning archive field recordings into kicks, snare, synths, pads, patterns etc. The sample pack will be shared via mail before the workshop.

Time: Saturday April 4, 12:00 CET

The workshop is free but space is limited, sign up via: https://forms.gle/v2ybDQCy8Xh6dZhq8

Some practical info:

  • The instruction will be given in Ableton but the rules and theory of sound design are widely applicable to most DAWs.
  • The workshop will be conducted via ZOOM. You will receive a URL, meeting code and password to be able to to join. You can download ZOOM at: https://zoom.us/
  • The workshop will last roughly 90minutes.
  • We’re still working out the kinks with the virtual workshop so we also ask that you have patience and an open mind!
