WORKSHOP | STAY IN THE LOOP

Ever feel like you’re stuck in a loop? You know that feeling where it’s just the same thing day-in and day-out? We get that; loops are…life? Maybe not, but loops are certainly integral to music and visuals. That’s why on April 14th (Avril 14th) at V2 Rotterdam together with Nous’klaer affiliates Konduku and Mattheis, The Netherlands Institute for Sound and Vision’s RE:VIVE initiative will organize a workshop that encourages producers to dig into the world of loops in a way that’s a bit unconventional.

Space for the workshop is limited and is granted on an application basis. Apply now: https://goo.gl/forms/iFqu2Dqisy6GcRyi1

From Steve Reich’s “It’s Gonna Rain” to your newest Ableton project, musical repetition guides us into a new state of awareness allowing us to exit ourselves. Visuals are the same, transfixing on a repeating image can blur out our surroundings once again, giving us an opportunity to experience ourselves differently.

For this workshop, RE:VIVE combines its affinity for electronic music and transforming archival material into new works with the Institute’s passion for animated GIFs. Attendees will be challenged to firstly, make their own GIFs using an array of analog techniques. From there there will be a masterclass in production and sound design from SAE Electronic Music Production instructor Giacomo Piscitelli plus a look into the melodic production worlds of Mattheis and Konduku. Attendees will then be challenged to, using an array of production techniques, write musical loops for their GIFs with the hope of creating a loop that can transport and disconnect its viewer from the world around them. After a few hours of producing we’ll all share our results and reflect on the day and process.
